How to Celebrate Leap Day 2012!

Happy Leap Year!

Leap years only come about once every four years. Leap year came about when the creators of the solar calendar realized we needed to add an extra day every four years to synchronize with the seasons and with the astronomical year. February 29 has become known as Leap Day. Since it only comes around every four years, here are our favorite ways to celebrate leap year and Leap Day!

Take a chace

Use this day as an excuse to do something you wouldn’t normally do. We’re not saying to park next to a windowless van or anything — just do something different. Take a different route to the mall, order a new dessert. If you don’t like it, so what? You broke a boundary!

Indulge in a cheesy romcom

Just like Valentine’s Day has, well, Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve has New Year’s Eve, leap year has — wait for it! — Leap Year.

Propose!

Or, you know, just ask that cute guy out. Irish folklore says that St. Bridget bargained with St. Patrick to allow women to propose to men every four years as a means to balance not only gender roles, but also the calendar. So chat up that cute guy in your geometry class and invite him for a slice of pizza (or, if you really want to get festive, shepherd’s pie)!

Another alternative? Put a ring on yourself. You deserve it!

XoXo,
